Lutheran worship focuses on two central themes: God’s Word and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. God’s Word finds a central place in our worship through the hearing of the Word in Scripture lessons read from the Bible each week, and through the pastor’s sermons which are Bible-based, contemporary interpretations of one or more of the appointed Scripture lessons for the day.
At Saint John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nazareth, PA our Christian worship service is patterned in the Lutheran tradition, using the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal as our primary source. We also use contemporary hymns and worship formats on occasion.
Worship Service times are as follows:
Music is an integral part of worship at St. John’s and all are welcome to participate. The Chancel Choir sings weekly, the Philethia Choir sings once a month at 8 a.m. during services and a Festival Choir sings on special occasions. There also is an Instrumental Ensemble, two children’s choirs and a youth choir.
Parking for worship can be found along the streets or in the two parking lots beside and behind the church. For your convenience our Sanctuary is handicapped accessible and air conditioned.
May those who desire to receive Communion find in it God’s grace and the means to strengthen their lives within the Christian family and their participation in the Church as we pray and work that God’s Church may be one. All visitors are welcome to share the Holy Eucharist who have been Baptized with water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and who have been admitted to Communion in their own church. We may be made differently but desire the same thing. Therefore if you find it difficult to come forward during the distribution of the bread and wine for any reason, please indicate to an usher your desire to partake. The server will come to your pew.
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY: During the week, the Church Office will follow the Nazareth Area School District for delays and closings in case of inclement weather. If the NASD closes for the day, the Church Office will be closed and all afternoon/evening activities for children and youth will be cancelled. Evening committee meetings will be at the discretion of the chairperson. If the NASD has a 2-hour delay, the Church Office will open at 10:00 a.m. and the afternoon/evening activities will be held as scheduled unless you are otherwise notified. In general, weekend worship services will NOT be cancelled due to weather, but please use your best judgment when deciding whether or not to join us — your safety is our utmost concern.
